Mental Health
Mental health disorders are common, as they affect about 26% of Americans. However, in the Alcohol and Substance Use community, these rates increase even more, 33.5% of adults with a mental illness also report having a Subtance Use Disorder. Having a Subtance Use Disorder & a mental health disorder is know as Dual-Diagnosis or Co-Occurring disorders. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, when someone has a Mental Health disorder and a Subtance Use Disorder it is typically better to treat them at the same time, rather than treating them separately.

At AYA Rehab Center the highly trained and compassionate team offers individualized medical care such as psychotherapy, with both individual & group therapy, Medication-Assisted Treatment & medication management for Co-Occurring Disorders, plus other treatment options to help you recover from Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Alcohol/Substance Use Disorder, or other Mental Health challenges.
What are Mental Health conditions?
Mental Health encompasses emotions, mental stability, thoughts, mood, and behaviors. Mental Health is how a person functions in their daily life. Mental illness is the actual diagnosable disorder that a person stuggles with. Mental Health conditions can cause constant sadness, mood swings, addictive behaviors, and other symptoms that may negatively affect your quality of life.
AYA Rehab Center provides numerous treatments for the Mental Health challenges that you face.

What are examples of Mental Health conditions?
Examples of Mental Health conditions include:
Anxiety disorders
Anxiety disorders are the most common form of mental illness. They can cause fear, extreme or ongoing anxiousness, trouble making decisions, restlessness, worry, trouble sleeping, and sometimes panic attacks. Some people feel anxious in social situations or because of phobias (extreme fear of specific objects or places).
Depression
Major Depression is the second most common mental health disorder that affects nearly 20% of adults during their lifetime. This condition is characterized by severe or constant sadness, loss of interest in once-favored activities, feeling hopeless or worthless, and sometimes thoughts of suicide. Women are more likely to experience depression than men; however, men have higher rates of suicide than women.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder is a mental illness associated with extreme mood swings. People with this condition often fluctuate between feelings of depression (hopelessness, apathy) and euphoria (extreme excitability or joy).
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
People with PTSD have undergone traumatic experiences such as sexual or physical abuse, emotional abuse, a car accident, a natural disaster, childhood neglect, a traumatic injury, or other forms of trauma. They may have anxiety, flashbacks, or nightmares.
Substance Use Disorder
Substance Use Disorder is a condition characterized by an inability to control the use of drugs or alcohol. Individuals with this disorder continue using substances despite the physical or mental harm they cause and keep using despite a desire to stop.
Dual Diagnosis
Some patients have Dual Diagnosis or Co-Occurring Disorders, which means they’ve been diagnosed with a mental illness and a comorbid Use Disorder. For example, many patients have depression and Alcohol Use Disorder.

How are Mental Health Disorders diagnosed?
A provider diagnoses mental health disorders by completing a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. They discuss your emotions, mood, behaviors, lifestyle, thoughts, and more. They also ask about your family history, medical history, medications, and goals. You might take a drug test.
